Definition of Memory problems

The memory is a concept that presents a sequence of brain activities that allow perception, reception, processing and retention of the data that we receive through our senses. The memory is basically has the potential to be infinite. Memory problems are caused by disrupting the full exploitation of this potential to the satisfaction of the person. They can be hidden in difficulties during the performance of each and every brain activity associated. The memory is located in the brain cells – the neurons. There is no particular place, where the memory is located in the brain, the memory process involves almost every part of it, and this is why each problem in a random spot of the brain can cause memory problem.

Factors of Memory problems

The modern Western world is extremely demanding, and there are also a lot of stressors and the habits, associated with the modern lifestyle aren’t helping (habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and meds). The additional factors may be heredity, age and environment influence.

Types of Memory problems

  • Insignificant or moderate decline of memory – a problem that starts from age 35 and older.
  • Amnesia – total or partial loss of memory which affects the patient’s everyday life. This disorder can occur by itself, or as a part of other disease, such as hallucination diseases. It’s usually connected to head injury, physical one or as a result of a tumor, vascular diseases of the brain (stroke) etc.
  • Hypermnesia – excessive memory, inability to forget. Forgetting is a natural defense mechanism.  It prevents from emotional breakdowns and unpleasant experiences to surface again. Excessive memory is formed due to disruption of this mechanism.
  • Reduplicative paramnesia – illusory memory. This refers to situations when the person cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality, can’t remember who is who and also when a person forgets the meaning of common words.
